Spotlight Blog: Gloria Burgess - MOD Sportswear

First, Gloria, we would love to tell our followers a little bit about you and your family.
I am a third-generation missionaries' wife. My husband and I work alongside his parents in Madrid, Spain. We love the beautiful nation of Spain and the people. Each week I try to explore something new in the city of Madrid. I find it very important to know the city you are reaching.

What is your current favorite drink from a coffee shop?
I prefer hot tea, but I love an ice-cold caramel macchiato on the rare occasion that I go to a coffee shop.

Because your day to day activities might be different every week, how do you structure your days and weeks to feel the most productive and organized?
One thing that helps me is the fact that I have church office hours. Our church is the largest in Spain, so we hold the National Offices within our church office. Another thing I like to do is to keep a regular schedule to create a weekly house cleaning list. Once I complete my cleaning task for that day, I feel a sense of accomplishment.

What is your current favorite fashion trend or style?
I absolutely love the espadrilles shoes. They have multiple stores in Spain where they are handmade. They are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

What has been the hardest part of transitioning to a different culture and location?
Many factors play into adjusting to a new location/country, but finding where I am needed the most is one of the more difficult transitions for me. There are many opportunities when coming to a different location/country, but just like starting new, you have to find yourself and find what areas work best for you and your personality and talents.

Do you have a favorite Podcast?
I can't say that I have a favorite podcast, but one of the podcasts I enjoy listening to is Dear Young Married Couple. My husband and I have been married for four years this year, and I have found their podcasts inspiring and helpful from the start of our marriage.

What is one of your favorite moments of 2020 so far?
This year has been one of the most interesting years for sure. We've been in lockdown in Spain since mid-March, so we have had to adjust our normal day today. One of my favorite parts about all of this is the connection we have made with people online. This time has forced us to connect with our members via social media and technology, and I feel we have had the opportunity to get to know them more through the everyday connection.

If you had a life motto, what would it be?
One of my favorite quotes that I've leaned on for the past few years is, "The Will of God will never take you where the Grace of God cannot protect you."

If folks would like to learn more about yours and your husband's ministry, where can they go for more information?
Great question! The best place to find more information about us and what we are doing is through our Facebook Page "Serving Spain."

Lastly, what is your most significant piece of advice for other women?
One thing that I had to adjust to, being a woman in ministry is that your personal ministry is important. Especially for married couples, it is easy to feel like you are a few steps behind your husband when it comes to your abilities. Each woman, single or married, has a specific purpose given to them by God, and He never wanted us to feel inferior. Be confident in the abilities and talents God has given you and use them to contribute to the ones around you. You are enough.
